Pokéventure http://pokemonblack.posterous.com My day-by-day journey through the all new Unova region of Pokémon Black posterous.com Fri, 11 Mar 2011 17:30:00 -0800 Day 2 - Route 1 to Accumula Town http://pokemonblack.posterous.com/day-2-from-accumula-to-striaton http://pokemonblack.posterous.com/day-2-from-accumula-to-striaton

Chenen, Bianca, and I had just recieved our first Pokemon and were about to embark on an adventure throughout the Unova region. Together, we took our first steps onto Route 1 to Accumula Town.

Route1

Professor Juniper was waiting there at the start at Route 1. She showed us how to catch Pokemon, for which I just had to impatiently watch because it is the same spiel from prior games. Afterwards, Chenen and Bianca went on their separate ways, while I tryed also continued to Accumula town while also catching every new Pokemon I ran into. The first Pokemon that appeared in the bushes was a cute Lillipup. I couldn't resist it's little wagging tail and big, pointy ears. I just had to have it! First, I lowered it's health (HP) then threw a Pokeball at it, hoping for the best. One...two...three...Tada! "Lillipup was caught!" I decided to nickname my first caught Pokemon "Meeko" because it reminded me of a former Chihuahau I owned in real life.

Among spotting a chipmunk-esque Pokemon called Patrat, I immediately thought of my two favorite Disney characters. This little guy was definitely cute, despite the fact that it has demon-red eyes. I couldn't control myself; I just HAD to catch two, so I could have a pair and name them Chip and Dale.

Next, I arrived in Accumula Town only to find a large gathering in the center of town. To my dismay, all the commotion was caused by Team Plasma. Their leader, Ghetsis (Pictured below), was giving a speech to the people about his "evil" plan. After hearing the speech, I became even more interested in the plot than I normally am with most games. Apparently, Team Plasma's ultimate goal is to set all the Pokemon free. In other words, they believe that Pokemon should not be controlled by humans. This reminds me of something from American history class...what was it?...Oh yeah--SLAVERY! Who would of thought that a Pokemon game would help you in history class? When Ghetsis and the rest of Team Plasma left, I was introduced to another character, who apparently goes by the name "N." N is a childish, green-haired guy who might have connections with Team Plasma, but it is to early to tell. I have a feeling he will play a major role in the plot.

After that unexpected surprise gathering, I explored the entire city. I was very impressed with the graphics in this game. It looks like it would have been perfect as a Nintendo 3DS title because it had 3D-like graphics without the 3D. All the characters appear taller and you can actually see the a character's body instead of just the top of the head. All in all, I'm glad this game isn't a 3DS exclusive because then I wouldn't be typing this blog now. Finally, I went to check out the Pokemon Center for the first time. Every Pokemon game to date has seen various aesthetic changes to the Pokemon Center, but none of them compare to the drastic changes this time around on the outside and inside. First of all, the Pokemart has been integrated into the Pokemon Center, so now their is not a separate building for it. The Pokemon Center is now a one-stop-shop kind of place. It also takes advantage of the new "3D" look. For the first time, you can actually see Nurse Joy's face in the game! When you first walk in, you can see the ENTIRE Pokemon Center at one glance, even the upstairs! There is one set of stairs on either side leading upstairs. Also, the basement has been removed. All of the wireless/wifi functions are in one of the three rooms upstairs. Room #1 (upstairs, starting from left)  is the Pokemon Wireless Club Union Room. Room #2 is the Pokemon Wi-fi Club, and Room #3 is the Global Terminal or GTS. The Global Trade Station no longer has a separate building like the Pokemart. It is now in the Pokemon Center too.

March 7th, 2011, the day after Pokemon Black and White arereleased in the US, I decide to make a quick run to Wal-mart to pick up a copy, among some other unrelated things. My local Wal-mart only had two copies of the game left, and both of them were Pokemon Black. I drove home eagerly anticipating the moment I get to first play the game. As soon as I get home, I grab my Nintendo DSi XL and remove Pokemon HeartGold to be replaced with Pokemon Black. Before I know it, the opening movie in the game is playing. My initial impression is "huh, what-the-junk is this?" It seemed like something out of Final Fantasy instead of a Pokemon game. Then, it transitioned into another short introductory clip that showcased each of the starter Pokemon like they were stars in a television sitcom. The standard menu came up after the movie with all the standard options for a DS Pokemon game. Not until I clicked 'New Game', did I begin to notice that this was very different from past games in the series. First, the professor in this game, for the first time in Pokemon history is a woman. Her name is Professor Juniper. I wasn't that surprised by that though because, come on, we (the United States) came very close to having our first female president in the 2008 election! Even the Pokemon that the Professor introduces at the beginning of every Pokemon game was different this time. Long gone is Marril, and in its place is a cute little cat-like Pokemon, whom I have not encountered yet (obviously), so I do not know what that species is called. After Juniper's spiel about the incredible world of Pokemon (like I haven't heard that one before!), she asked me for my name. Like in every Pokemon game I have ever owned, I simply go with the name "Alex." I know what you're thinking--"How original, Alex!"-- Well, I chose it because I will never have to worry about explaining the name I picked to others and risk creating a name that I later regret! Finally, I was whizzed away to the center of Nuvema town, where I meet up with two in-game friends named Cheren (male) and Bianca.

I feel like I all ready know them, when in reality we just met yesterday. There personalities are a bit cliche, but our conversations are quite humorous. Professor Juniper tells the three of us to go up to my virtual room because she has a present for each of us (I wonder what it is!). From what I've noticed in this game, all the houses and buildings are much bigger on the inside than in previous games. Frankly, I think the disk space used to make them bigger could have been used for additional features or Pokemon. Currently, there really is no reason for them to be that roomy when most are used for decoration anyway.

I was the first to choose my very own Pokemon from the gorgeously wrapped gift box sitting on my desk. The choices were Snivy, the ugly-as-hell grass type snake with legs; Tepig, the cute fire type pig; and Oshawott, the depressed water type otter. After much last-minute consideration (about 15 seconds), I chose Oshawott because in Pokemon Diamond I chose the grass type, in HeartGold I chose the fire type, so in this version I just had to choose the water type! Bianca chose Tepig, and Cheren chose Snivy. Immediately, Bianca suggested that we have our first battle right there in my room (which by the way has a totally awesome Nintendo Wii). Chenen tried to be responsible and talk her intp doing it outside instead, but had little luck. My first battle was with Bianca's Tepig. After winning the battle, the room was filled with smoke or dust. When it cleared away, I could see all the furniture moved around and little Pokemon footprints all over the floor and walls. Then, it was Chenen's turn to battle with his Snivy. Afterwards, Bianca and Chenen went downstairs to apologize to my mom for the mess, then left. My mom gave me a Xtransciever, a futuristic video calling device that is used as the game's phone feature to communicate with the game's characters. Then after a short and sweet goodbye, I set off on my adventure with my two friends.

Mon, 07 Mar 2011 18:41:00 -0800 Introduction http://pokemonblack.posterous.com/introduction http://pokemonblack.posterous.com/introduction

Hello there! No, that doesn't sound good. Howdy! Nope, that's not it either. As you can see, this is the hardest part of starting a blog after choosing a topic, of course. For the longest time, I have wanted to start my own blog, but I never could decide what to write about. In fact, I became interested in blogging a couple years ago after seeing the movie Julie & Julia, the movie based on the young woman who blogged about cooking one of Julia Child's famous recipes each day for one year. Well, I'm not blogging about cooking, but instead I am going to blog about my day-to-day experiences in the Unova region of Pokémon Black. I'm going to try to post daily, but I am a college student, so my schooling will come first. I hope you join me as I go on this virtual adventure from start to finish!

First off, I'm going to introduce myself to all those who do not know me. My name is Alex. I am 19 years old and I currently live in northwest Florida. I consider myself to be a kid at heart. I love gaming, especially Nintendo, and technology. I am an Apple enthusiast and a Disney Channel buff. I have a public Twitter account (@croc122) with which I post links to various tech news sites and blogs everyday and also occasionally to celebrity-related sites and other interesting things I find on the web.I also have a Facebook account, but I do NOT accept friend requests from people I do not know personally. Eventually, I may create a fan page, but I'm not quite there yet. I can only do it with YOUR help, so please tell your friends interested in Pokémon about this blog.
